Out of Sight Media | A Day in the Life of the Paparazzi!

Today I finally got my revenge on the “Jumpers”. There are these photographers that always jump every photographer that they see regardless of whether they know which celebrity is being worked on. Well, today, I jumped them for the first time.

Well, it wasn’t actually really a jump since it happened on Robertson Blvd. They were standing like morons outside the Kitson Kids store. They were so obvious. I pulled into a metered parking space and I made my way to the store. When I got there, I noticed right away what they were working on. It was Kate Beckinsale and her family.

As they exited the store, I started to take pictures. It was just myself and the Jumpers. Soon after, more paparazzi started to show up. I did get exclusive video though. Well, they kept walking and walking down the street. Soon they crossed the street on Robertson Blvd. and Third St.

They walked towards this parked car and slowly got in. As Kate entered the car on the passenger side, she put her daughter in her lap. Then the car drove off. Kate never put her seatbelt on and her daughter definitely had no seatbelt on since she was on Kate’s lap; unless Kate had a special seatbelt strap on her outfit.

I just finished shooting Kate Beckinsale when I noticed Taye Diggs walking down Robertson Blvd. No one photographed him which I thought was strange, so I ran across the street just as he passed Kitson.

He didn’t go into Kitson, but I noticed that he had some bags from the store. He kept walking and finally made it into the parking structure. I ran after him. He was still on his cell phone when I took the first shot.

When I looked back, there were a few paparazzi behind me. They were chasing after me to get some shots as well. I bet they didn’t even know who it was.

Well, Taye finally made it into his car. He was really cool with me. He did look a little intimidating though. He took off and I went home.

I had planned on taking off today! I woke up really late and I started to mess around with my e-mail. I started to get a little bored, so I decided to go for a cruise around the town. I was killing time until traffic died down so I could take my motorcycle out for a ride.

I got into my car and off I went. Of course, I always take my camera because I never know who I’ll spot. I really didn’t plan on working today because I thought I wouldn’t find anyone. However, I should know myself a little better than that… I frequently find someone.

As I drove southbound on Robertson Blvd., I spotted Keanu Reeves’ car parked outside the Ivy restaurant. I didn’t see any paparazzi; I figured that they were all taking the day off. I found parking around the block and I slowly got my camera ready. Oh yeah, earlier I had stopped to get some coffee, so I also took that along with me to the restaurant. I was with an ‘I don’t care attitude’. “If I get him, great! If I don’t, great!,” I said to myself.

When I got there, Keanu’s car was still parked in front. I started to wait. No other paparazzi and no Keanu, yet! I waited and I waited. Minute 45 came and I finally got jumped by some paparazzi. They noticed me even though I had covered myself with the valet sign in front of the restaurant. They didn’t even know who it was. Well, I couldn’t expect to be exclusive on Robertson Blvd.

By the time Keanu came out, there were about eight paparazzi. It was totally non-exclusive. I went home after that.

The only reason that I shot this guy was because everyone else started to shoot him. I really was not going to waste my time, but then I remembered that I have a blog.

So, here is JR Rotem! I think they linked this guy as one of Britney’s one-night stands, so the paparazzi started to shoot him.

This is how powerful Britney’s influence with the media is. All she did was have to be seen with this dude. This guy seemed a little over the top to me, as far as being arrogant, but then again, I am sure someone out there thinks this dude is cool.

Well, enough about this dude. Does anyone know who this dude is?! What does he do?

I was at home when I got a call from one of my tipsters that Eva Longoria was about to finish shopping at her store on Robertson Blvd. I figured, hey!, I am taking the day off, but Robertson Blvd. is so close to where I live that I could go check it out.

I got my camera bag and off I went to Robertson Blvd. I took all the backstreets to avoid traffic. I think I made it there in record time. When I got there, I noticed a few photographers outside another store. I parked my car and off I went to get a few shots of Eva Longoria. Well, when I got to the store and looked inside, to my surprise, my Eva Longoria turned into Eve.

I must have heard my tipster wrong. It didn’t make any sense to me, but I continued to shoot. I took my time since it was just Eve. When I worked with other agencies before starting my own, I was never able to sell her.

Well, today, I was able to sell her for what she did. She must have been feeling the “Christmas Spirit”. When she came out of the store, there were four kids walking the streets with their blue buckets selling candy for five bucks.

Eve noticed them and took out her fat wallet. She then pulled out a few twenties and handed the money out to the kids. I don’t know if she did it because she has a genuine heart or just to get PR, but it helped to sell the images.

After Eva Longoria took off, she headed eastbound on Melrose Ave. We passed Fairfax Ave., and headied into a very busy street. I was still following Eva but I didn’t want anyone to be able to spot me or her so I pulled back. Eventually I got caught on a red light and I considered it a success. Eva kept going and I started to hunt again.

While I was on the same street and waiting for that red light to turn green, I saw Chris Ivery and his soon to be wife, Ellen Pompeo, heading the opposite direction. I had never seen them before, other than in the magazines I read to study, such as Star, Us Weekly, InTouch, People, etc. I was actually surprised how quickly I recognized them. I made a U-turn as the light turned green and I started to follow them.

They made a left on Fairfax Ave. and so did I, then they kept driving and driving. They finally pulled into a gas station and I was happy about that, since pumping gas shots always sell. But to my surprise, only he got out. He went into a local taco shop and bought himself some takeout while she waited in the car. They were off again; they headed southbound on Fairfax Ave., and off I went following them. We were way past any paparazzi zone. I think we were in Culver City. I don’t even know the streets, so I just have to summarize the next part of the story.

We were out in the “boondocks” somewhere when they finally pulled into Surfas Grocery store. I discretely got out of my car and took some shots of the couple getting out of their car and shopping. Well, to my surprise again, she came out of the car and he stayed in there. She went into the store for over fourty minutes. He finally came out of the car and headed into the store. About thirty minutes later, they finally came out.

By this time, I waited outside the grocery store with my camera in hand. They noticed me and their expression was like, ‘what the heck?’ But that soon changed once I started talking to them; I normally get along with celebs. They could tell that they had loosened up, so they started chatting with me. Well, they got so comfortable with me that they actually asked me out to dinner.

Well, they took off and I went home after that.

I will show you guys the video after Christmas since I am heading home to spend time with my parents.

This story happened a few days ago, but this is how it happened. I was heading westbound on Beverly Blvd., near La Cienega Blvd. I remember being on the phone with a competing paparazzo. We were just gossiping about random stuff and complaining about how the day was really slow. All of a sudden, I noticed Eva Longoria zoom by as she headed the opposite direction.

I said to my competitor, “I have to go!,” and I hung up the phone. I quickly made a U-turn and I started to catch up. There were a few cars in front of me. On the next light, I got caught on a red, but I maintained visual. Three blocks down the street, she made a left turn.

My light turned green and I gunned it. I made it to that street and I also made a left. I could see her in the distance. She was close to Melrose Ave. by now. I put my led-foot on the gas and off I went. I was close enough at one block away at this point before she made a right. I was still alone on the chase. I finally made a right on Melrose Ave. I was getting closer and closer.

After a few blocks, I realized where she was going since she has been there before. I was no longer worried about being spotted by other photographers since we passed the paparazzi zone. She didn’t go to Fred Segal, which was a relief for me. She finally pulled over along Melrose Ave. She parked her car in a metered parking space, and I parked as well. I got my camera ready so that I could catch her feeding the parking meter. She got out of her car and the hose-down began. She was on the phone the entire time, so I couldn’t disrupt her conversation by asking her stupid questions for my video. However, the shots I got were the best that I have ever taken. She was carrying this huge gift bag and smiling all the way.

You guys wanted an “A” Celeb, so here is “A” celeb that I found today. Ok! I was never good at telling jokes. But this is all that I found today.

Normally I have my good lens attached to my camera which is the 28-70mm f2.8. Today, however, I should have had my gangbang lens on my camera, my 17-85mm f4-5.6. I was a little over lens and I had a hard time getting far enough to be able to get their feet in the picture. I should know better.

I didn’t get to work until late again. I was waiting for the cable guy to come fix the speed on my internet connection. Currently I am really disappointed with Time Warner as my internet provider. But it looks like they have a monopoly around this part of town. So, I was finally out of the house around 2:30 PM. I was looking out for anyone since during the holiday season; it tends to slow down a little bit. Everyone in a while you can still get lucky and find a bunch of sets.

Well, I was going to meet that same friend over for coffee at the Newsroom. The funny part about it was that when I showed up on Robertson Blvd, I noticed a bunch of paparazzi waiting for someone outside the Ivy. Well, I found parking right away and I started to head over.

I was almost there when Michelle Rodriguez comes out and everyone starts to shoot her. I ran to catch up to the gangbang. I was a little late but just in time to be able to snap the winning shot.

She stopped to pose for a few seconds before she decided on entering Kitson. She was only in there for a bit and she came out to an awaiting car. I went to meet up with my friend after that for a cup of coffee. I went home after that.

Here is the story of what happened that night! Well, most of the story.

I was heading home and I noticed a few paparazzi hanging out just outside Marc Jacobs in West Hollywood. I made a U-turn and I went to park. I got my flash ready for my camera and once that was set, I walked to the store where the gangbang was already in progress. It was Katie Holmes shopping.

The attendants at the door were blocking the paparazzi from getting any shots and it was actually quite annoying. I stayed quiet and patient since I knew that she was going to be in there shopping a long time. Eventually, the louder paparazzi started to get singled out by the store workers. They started to block only them from getting any shots. Since I was quiet and patient, they let me take all the shots and video to my hearts content. Well, Katie Holmes left and I was starting to take off when all of a sudden, the people that were arguing earlier started to fight. I don’t know who through down first and I won’t go into any more details since it is not my right to judge the events that happened that night. It was an ugly fight though!

After the Nicole Richie Story that I missed since she was so quick to get in her car, I headed to meet with a friend. We were going to meet at the Newsroom for a cup of coffee and to catch up on old times. I haven’t seen this particular friend in months and I was wondering what he has been up to.

He told me that he has been traveling for his company quite a bit and that he has been getting good stories. We drifted the conversation to a movie called “The Secret” and I also talked about another movie that I like called “What the BLEEP Do We Know!?”

The interesting part of the conversation is how these movies kinda relate to the same concept of “You create your own reality” and that “Everything that happens to you is because you create it.” It is very cool that we were in the same wavelength regarding our way of thinking do in part to these movies. Have any of you seen any of these movies?

Well, after an hour or so, we said “Late!” And of I went to find another story. I was actually on my way home and I stumbled on Katie Holmes at Marc Jacobs along Melrose Ave. She was doing some shopping and I was able to get a few shots.
