Out of Sight Media | A Day in the Life of the Paparazzi!

Today I went to check out Pearl Harbor because I found out that Cameron Diaz was already in LA. She probably left because the winds are too strong, making it impossible for some to surf. The weather here is extremely windy that it feels like a hurricane to me (although, I have never been in a hurricane).

I decided then to go to the local tourist destination and see it for myself. I have never been to Pearl Harbor until today. It was amazing. There was so much history behind the attack on Pearl Harbor that my girl and myself spent a few hours going through the museum.

There was a model replica of the ship underwater, which I felt the need to hose down since there are no celebs here to hose down. By the way, if you know of any celebs here other than Evangeline Lily and Dominic Monaghan, then please let me know. Actually, please give me information on how to find them also.

Did you know that there was a suicide torpedo piloted by a man? Yup! The crazy dude would get in the torpedo and he would have full control of the steering. He would decide which part of the ship he was going to end up in! That is crazy!

Well, going back to Pearl Harbor! It was amazing seeing the ship! What a feeling. I think I went through a few emotions of anger, sadness, and amazement!

So here I am in Hawaii working away, getting familiar with this “awful” looking place in search for a few celebs. I mean, the weather is very windy and the temperature is an exhausting 75 degrees. It can’t get any worse. Just to describe how awful it is here, I have taken a few pictures of this darn place.

I can’t believe I have to work here. I really don’t recommend it for the faint of heart.

I wanted to check out the big wave surfing contest (Monster Energy Pipeline Pro, presented by Billabong) that was going to happen, but I guess because of this awful weather, they postponed it a few days. I am hoping that the weather does improve.

Can you all tell that I am having a bad time here? Yup! It is just awful. Hehe

Ok! I have to go. My girl wants me to have another drink. Hopefully tomorrow I will find someone to hose.

It was getting late on Friday. After photographing Phoebe Price at the Ivy and earlier that day getting Michelle Rodriguez I was very satisfied with my day. After all, I had my daily allowance of spots by then. I was driving on Sunset Blvd heading eastbound. I was going to go get some coffee so that I could reflect on my day.

I was almost there when all of a sudden I spotted this chick walking her dog who had a resemblance to a celeb. I almost didn’t think anything of it since she was walking on Sunset Blvd. I don’t know any celeb out there that walks their dog on Sunset Blvd, one of the most heavily traveled paparazzi routes, unless they are really desperate for attention.

Well, I made a U-turn to take a closer look. Yup! I was right, it was Famke Janssen walking this little dog. I don’t know what she was thinking. It was actually a little hard to shoot her old school because of all the traffic. So I got my long lens and from across the street I started to light her up. She didn’t notice me because I was kinda far away. She turned back and started to head the other direction. She was now heading towards the Chateau Marmont.

I am going to make this story short cause I am tired and I am on vacation. I was lighting her up and she finally saw me. She started to cover her face. Well, luckily for me, I also had my short lens in my camera bag that I was carrying while on foot. So I whipped it out and I started to hose her. She was really pissed. She said to me, “Why don’t you go photograph someone that wants to be photographed, like the Olsen Twins?” If only she knew that the Olsen Twins really don’t like to be photographed. Then she says to me, “I just want my privacy.” PLEASE!!! You are walking on Sunset Blvd with your freaking dog! It is almost like going to the Ivy and not wanting your picture taken.

She was being a spoiled little B#$%H. I actually did not feel sorry for her. She turned around so that I couldn’t get a shot of her face. She actually was there waiting for me to leave. I told her, “let me get a good shot of you and I will leave. You can then carry on with your dog walking.” She got more upset.

I then told her, “Look, I can’t leave until I get a shot of you.” Pissed of she turns around and starts walking towards me. I get a few shots and off she went. If only she would have complied earlier, it would have been done with.

After hosing down Michelle Rodriguez, I headed off to the Ivy Restaurant. I heard that some dude from American Idol was going to be there. It was a very reliable tip so that is where I went. I actually forgot his name since later on in the day I found out that he was actually not really important after all since he was just a contestant and not a previous winner. He is not famous yet!

Well, when I got there, I spotted Phoebe Price just out side the Ivy trying to get the attention of the photographers. I was still in my car but I quickly found parking on a loading zone. I got my camera and I directly walked to Phoebe and I asked her for a picture. There were so many paparazzi just standing around. I don’t think that they even wanted to photograph her. Well, she always sells for worst dressed, but that day, she was actually looking quite lovely.

Well, after she modeled for me and gave me plenty of shots; I guess all the other paparazzi decided to hose her down. This is when I realized that these new guys didn’t even know who she was. Well, it was just Phoebe.

She has always been a good sport with the paparazzi. I actually wonder what she has done lately. I don’t remember ever seeing her in any movie. Do you guys know what kind of work she has done?

The Next day on Friday, I was driving doing my normal routine. I was talking with my business partner on the phone discussing the industry and where our company Buzz Foto is going, when I spotted Michelle Rodriguez walking the streets of LA with a female friend. I was kinda bummed out when I noticed that her friend was not tall and blonde, since that would mean that it was her girlfriend Kristanna Loken.

Well, I told Brad that I had to get off the phone. I was exclusive for a very long time. I got her running in front of a city bus as she crossed the street. I got her clicking on the crossing button; I even had a little conversation with her. When all of a sudden, I get jumped. Not only that, I got jumped by people that said that they would never jump me. That is cool, though, since I consider it a public invitation to jump them every time they are working on something.

Well, What ended up happening next was actually very rare. A car pulls next to them and Michelle yells out. We are getting into the car with you. The driver of that car was this blonde. Initially, I didn’t think anything of it. I also knew that they were heading to Fred Segal. They drive off and I hurried to m car. I drove to Fred Segal and I got there just as the three girls were walking into the restaurant. I was able to knock off a few frames of the three girls and then I headed off.

Later on that day, I was looking at the pictures and I concentrated on the blonde. Is that Kristanna Loken? What do you guys think?

Later on that day, I had a party to attend called, “Like It Was Yesterday”. It was a party that was going to feature Brad Elterman’s iconic images that he took in the 70s and 80s. The pictures included iconic images of Leif Garret, Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols, Rodney Bingenheimer who was known as the “Mayor of the Sunset Strip”, Marina Del Rey, Burt Goldenberg, and many others.

The private reception at Next Model Management turned out to be a star studded evening. All the above people showed up. It was actually quite a treat for me to see all these people live in person. It made me wonder how much the business has changed, for the paparazzi business that is.

Before in the good old days, the celebs knew the photographers by a first name basis. Today, we are so many in numbers that celebs don’t even want to claim any association with any paparazzo.

Brad Elterman is still good friends with all the people above, hence that is why they all showed up to his party. I kinda want that to happen to me when my images become iconic images. Can you imagine Lindsay Lohan showing up to see the pictures that I took of her when she was young?

Hey, I promise, I will make it my business to change the business once again. I promise that I will make an effort to change the way paparazzi are perceived by the celebs and the way paparazzi are perceived by people.

The highlight of the evening was when seventies Pop Star, Leif Garret and Brad Elterman reenacted the famous picture taken by Brad Elterman of Leif Garrett and Nicollette Sheridan when she was 17 years old. Brad was a little shy at first, but he finally gave in to the peer pressure. Of course, I got the exclusive shots of the night.

Hey! I need to apologize for not updating my blog in some time. I will be a little more responsible in updating it. Even though I am taking some vacation time in the wonderful islands of Hawaii, I find myself compelled to catch up my blog to at least the last day that I worked in LA, which was on Friday. This story happened on

The Jessica Alba story happened as I was waiting for a rumored Lindsay Lohan tip that she was going to show up at the Ivy Restaurant. Every paparazzo in LA was waiting for her to arrive. Well, she never did! But to make the day a little more exiting, Jessica Alba decides to drive by the local eatery to tell us that she was in the area.

I noticed her right away and I did not hesitate to run to my car so that I could do a follow. I know that many of the Paps that were there did not even know that it was here. They just saw movement from the few of us that spotted her. In the end, only a few Paps decided to follow her.

She ended up at Cider-Sinai Medical Center. She pulled into the parking lot and heads to the third floor. Of course, all of us that were following also went into the parking lot. She parked and we double-parked. She got out of her car and we hosed her down. It made my day very well. That was the only thing that I found that day. It was a slow day for me.

paparazzi gathering outside the Ivy Restaurant. I quickly found parking and I got my camera with flash ready.

I ran to the Ivy. Once I got there, I didn’t have to wait too long since La Toya Jackson came out with a mystery male friend in about ten minutes from the time that I got there. It was almost as if she was waiting for me to arrive since I was the last to arrive.

She gets into her car and off she goes. It took me a while to get to my car since I was literally parked around the corner. By the time I got to my car, I was ready to go home. I made a U-turn so that I could pass by Robertson Blvd one more time. To my surprise, there was La Toya Jackson’s car again. This time it was parked just outside MAC, which is a make-up store. I made a U-turn and found parking again. I couldn’t believe that she would return to Robertson Blvd after just leaving it. It was definitely round two. I get my camera and flash ready again. I run to MAC.

Once again, just as I get there, she was making her way out. This time, she starts digging into her purse and whips out a wallet. She says to us, “I can arrest you guys now. I am a police officer.” She smiles for the cameras.

She flashes her badge to everyone there. She must be really desperate to get in the tabs next week. Ok! Hopefully, I am the one that will put her there.

I went to Beverly Hills to see if my luck would change. Ok! I haven’t been feeling too well since I have been feeling a little sick for a few days now. So I decided to check out Beverly Hills to see if my luck would change a little.

A few years ago, I used to have a hard time finding celebs in Beverly Hills. I never really liked it since it is always congested with traffic and people, not only that, it is practically impossible to find parking; especially if you are in a hurry since you just spotted a celeb.

Well, I was rolling around Brighton Way when I spotted Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. They were both walking and talking. Ron was also sucking on a lollipop. As they walked, you could see them somewhat window shopping since every once in a while they would stop to look inside the store.

Well, I was on a one-way so I couldn’t make a U-turn. I went around the block and I thought that I was going to loose them. By the time I got to where they were, luckily a space opened up and I got in. I ran passed them. Lucky for me a tourist stopped them for a picture. They noticed me and I started to chat with them. I asked if I could have their picture and they said yes. I let them go after that. I got what I needed and they were cool. Hey, maybe I should have asked them to put me in a movie. Nah!

I found Rachel Stevens taking a big bite out of her meal as she ate outside Urth Cafe with a mystery male friend. Could it be her new man?

Well, I found parking across the street on the red zone. I was still blocking the traffic a bit. This one lady yells out to me, “You know that you are blocking traffic?” I quickly responded, “Yeah!” I thought that the conversation was over but then she continues, “and you don’t care that you are blocking traffic.” I responded, “No!” She took off kinda pissed. I was telling her the truth.

Well, I started to hose Rachel Stevens down. She did not even know what hit her. I got out of my car and I got a little closer. The idea was that I wanted a shot of her leaving the seat and maybe get a shot of the couple kissing or hugging or something. Well, they didn’t do that!

After about thirty minutes of waiting for her to leave, she finally gets up, she realizes that I was hosing her down and she decides to walk in front of the guy. She didn’t even look at him, she simply smiled. Oh well, it was just Rachel Stevens. And oh! I forgot to mention that she was also sitting next to British actor and musician Adrian “Tricky” Thaws. I wonder if she knew that!

Today, I was taking it very easy running errands. One of my errands was to take my car for its breaks. They were starting to squeak. I took care of that! Well, I was on the road kinda late and my Pap Alert goes off. “Go to Sunset Blvd and Alta Loma, Jessica Simpson is there.”

When I get to the location, sure enough, twenty paparazzi or so where standing outside waiting for her to come out. I don’t know if anyone got her on the way in. So, I found parking one block away on a metered spot.

I get my long lens and my short lens ready. I step out of my car with both my cameras and I made my way to the location. Everyone was acting as if she did not know where she was… She could be at Sunset Tan… She could be at the Dentist Office… She could be at the message place… She could be … you get the picture.

After about 40 minutes, she finally comes out of the Acupuncture massage place. She was on the second floor and you can just imagine twenty paparazzi making their way up the stairs. It was crazy since Jessica’s friend made it difficult since she moved the car to the underground parking which meant that Jessica was going to take the elevator down. Once she got in the elevator, you can just imagine twenty paparazzi running down three flights of stairs.

She comes out of the elevator and we hosed her. It would have been easier if she would have given us the shots. Then the paparazzi would not go to extremes to get the shots. But they sometimes like to play hard to get.
