A Day In The Life Of The Paparazzi by Henry Flores
A Day In The Life Of The Paparazzi features a living vicariously approach to depicting the trade of the paparazzo, with self-narrated adventures in every vignette and interspersed photographs that aptly represent the craft. Through them, the author convincingly declares, “I am part of the entertainment industry and without me or without the other paparazzi out there, celebrities wouldn’t be who they are.” Follow the author and photographer, Henry Flores, on his pursuit to get that perfect shot. As he famously states, “Sometimes you only have seconds to react, so you have to always be prepared, because those mere seconds are all you may get to secure a good shot!”
A Day In The Life Of The Paparazzi curates shockingly candid, under-produced portraits of larger-than-life personalities like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, and Britney Spears into a work of art. The front cover of the book has a picture of Lindsay Lohan surrounded by paparazzi, which he took while she was at the peak of her career. The book begins with a raucous image of Lindsay Lohan leaving Paris Hilton’s house at four o’clock in the morning, and ends with intimate shots of Henry Flores and other celebrities. The pages in between tell the story of celebrity and its business, but not in the slick, censored way stars are usually portrayed. Publicists or Photoshop do not hinder Henry Flores’ photographs. The book contains 120 pages of celebrity photos along with some never before seen photos of the starlets of today and possibly, the icons of tomorrow.
Henry Flores has been featured on ABC World News, NightLine, Extra TV, and many other media productions, including documentaries from Germany, Canada, and the USA. A few hours passed since my last encounters with celebrities and I headed into the beach close to the life guard post. I was on the sand doing some people watching. I couldn’t understand how some people where actually getting into the water and it took me back to the days when I went into the water as a little boy. I think I was 10 years old and I remember freezing. I never went into the water again in Santa Monica beach. It was just too cold. Well, outside of the water, was a gorgeous sunny and warm day. Perfect for bikini clad girls to enjoy the beach, and then there was Kristin Cavallari. Today was my lucky day.
Kristin Cavallari was walking the beach with a few girlfriends and she was looking amazing in her two piece bikini, and her body was to die for. From a distance I hid behind the lifeguard post and snapped a few shots. I didn’t want her noticing me and so I kept it low key. She looked in my direction but I am sure that she didn’t see me. She probably fixated on the lifeguard who was scoping out the beach. She carried on with her friends. I didn’t follow, after all, I did get the shots in those few seconds, enough shots to not bother her with her friends. See the rest of the photos on my personal website.

I wanted to verify that Caroline D’Amore was not going to do something else and so I followed her for a little bit. Eventually, I decided that enjoying the sun was more towards my interest and so I decided to look around. To my surprise, I noticed this young lady who was running with her dog that looked so familiar that I had to do a double take. As she got closer, without thinking, I took out my camera and started to take photos as I realized that it was none other than Lark Voorhies.
I loved watching Lark Vorhies when she was Lisa Turtle on Saved By The Bell. I think I watched every episode twice before heading to school back in my day. Well anyways, Lark looked incredible and it looked liked she was having the best time with her dog. It was a beautiful day and I couldn’t help but enjoy the moment with her. I went to the beach the other day and like always, I seem to attract celebrities to my whereabouts. It didn’t take long for me to notice in the distance the beautiful Caroline D’Amore skateboarding towards my direction. Like always, I am always prepared and I whipped out my camera to take a few shots. I was on Melrose Ave and heading into West Hollywood when I spotted Oliver Martinez’s Harley Davison Motorcycle in front of a restaurant which I normally frequent. Funny enough, I also noticed the five other guys standing right next to it holding cameras. I have this great parking karma and a space opened up. After parking I ran across the street to wait for Oliver to come out of the restaurant. He was just finishing eating his lunch. As soon as we realized that he paid his bill, we all got ready for the shots. Since it was only a few paparazzi, it wasn’t rushed but calm. Oliver came out smiling and we got the shots. I like working with celebrities when they want to give back. When I received the call from Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler that they were going to be helping out some kids and that they wanted me to document it with my photographs, I quickly jumped at the opportunity. The plan was to meet them at the Daniel Freeman Elementary School really early in the morning. They were both representing the One Kid One World Foundation (http://www.onekidoneworld.org), whose mission is ‘to make a difference in the lives of children in need around the globe: One world, one school, one kid, at a time.’ When we arrived, we all started to smile. Soon, we were being escorted to the first classroom. As soon as our escort opened the door and Kristin and Jay walked in, the children started to cheer. It was apparent to me that the kids had seen them before. So, this is an open message to Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler. Thank you for inviting me and thank you for helping these children in need. Please count on me anytime you need a photographer.

Today I found myself having an amazing interview with the Swedish National Broadcasting Corporation. After our two hour interview, we headed to the streets. It was already late but I was determined to find anyone. The sun was starting to come down and I only had one hour to go. The video crew was in my car and I was getting nervous. I needed to come through and show them that I could. To make matter worst, I felt that it was about to rain. I went up and down all the transition streets in my route and I ended up on Melrose Avenue. There is when I spotted Alexia Starchild walking towards the cafe. It was dark and I was surprised that I was able to get some shots and for some amazing coincidence, the Swedes knew her. It was win, win.
